John Eugene Roberts, CW4 Retired Army.   Born in Paris Tennessee February 20, 1949

Died April 11, 2025, at home in Colorado Springs, CO. 

John Served as a UH1 Huey Pilot with B Company, Kingsmen, 101st Aviation, Bn. in Vietnam in 1970 where he received The Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism & a personal Vietnam Gallantry Cross with a Silver Star.

John flew CH47 Chinooks at Fort Rucker AL & got a Degree in Aviation Management at Embry Riddle University.  He got his Fixed Wing pilot’s license. As a Chinook pilot he became a Safety Officer, a Standardization, Night Vision Goggle, and High-Altitude Instructor Pilot & Instrument Flight Examiner.  He served in Alabama, Korea, Germany, Colorado, Kentucky & Saudi Arabia in Operation Desert Shield back with the 101st Airborne. He was medically retired with 3600 hours of flight time.

While in Germany John flew in France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Scotland, England, Italy and Egypt. In Colorado he flew many Search and Rescue Missions and Served as the Company Operations Officer.  At Fort Campbell he was the Company SIP & the Assistant to the Division Aviation Officer.  After retirement John Volunteered for The Colorado Office of Emergency Management.  He served as a Lector & Lay Eucharistic Minister at the Chapel on Fort Carson. Was President of the PTO at Sunrise Elementary in Widefield CO where he led Boy Scout Troop 375.  As a father and grandfather John took his family camping, fishing and hunting in the Rocky Mountains.  Teaching them gun and camping safety.

John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Stradling Roberts and children:

Was President of the PTO at Sunrise Elementary in Widefield CO where he led Boy Scout Troop 375.  As a father and grandfather John took his family camping, fishing and hunting in the Rocky Mountains.  Teaching them gun and camping safety.
