In Loving Memory of
Scott Allen Miller
January 11, 1959 – July 7, 2026
Our father and long-time Monument resident, Scott Allen Miller, 67, passed away on July 7, 2026, surrounded by family.
Scott was born on January 11, 1959, in St. Louis, Missouri. As a young child, his family moved to Colorado, and he was raised in Durango. He graduated high school in 1977 before beginning work at the Henderson Mine near Idaho Springs in 1978, where he was part of the concrete and rail crews. In 1982, he moved to
Colorado Springs and began a career in construction. Later in 1984, he settled in Monument and founded his own company, S.A.M. Construction. Scott left his mark on countless homes and the community he loved. If you spent any time driving around with him, chances are he pointed out a deck, a house, or a project and proudly said, “See that over there? I built that.”
Building wasn’t just what Scott did for a living; it was who he was. Not only did he build homes and a business, he built a life through hard work, determination, and grit. However, his greatest legacy is that he built strong, independent, and resilient children.
Our dad taught us how to change a tire, use power tools, paint the exterior of a house with
just a paintbrush, ski without fear, a? + b2 = c, and to never shy away from hard work.
He believed in doing things for yourself, doing things the right way even if it takes longer, showing up when someone needs you, and finding a way to “Get’er Done.” Scott also knew how to enjoy life and appreciate the little things. He enjoyed a cup of coffee in the morning, hiking, fishing, skiing, being outdoors, cribbage, rescuing quality items from the trash, and his dog Amsoil later in life. He loved Colorado and living the high life; there was nowhere else he would rather be.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Strain, and his sister, Dolores Springer.
He is survived by his children, Kendra Sosa, Jared Miller, Aaron Miller, and Tarah Miller; his beloved grandchildren, Karter Sosa, Kathan Sosa, Charlotte Sosa, and Eloise Miller; his sisters, Cheryl Linde and Ginger Peters; and his nieces and nephew, Tiffany Rizzo, Haley Genshaft, and Keith Peters.
Scott’s life reminds us that the things we build with our hands may last for years, but the lessons we teach, the love we give, and the memories we create will last for generations. His family will carry his strength, his stories, his stubbornness, his humor, and his unforgettable sayings with them always. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A Celebration of life will be held on September 12, 2026 1pm at Scott’s home in Monument.
