Calvin had been a truck driver for around 6 years before going to work as an aircraft refueller at DFW airport for almost 30 years and retiring in 2012. His love and passion was music of all kinds, but especially blues music. Calvin was dearly loved and respected by the blues communities all around Texas. He happily helped so many friends haul equipment from gig to gig, set everything up, run stages, and take so many pictures. Every year for 20 years Calvin helped park cars and then set up equipment for the Stevie Ray Vaughn Memorial Ride in DFW, eventually ending up running the whole stage. Calvin proudly took care of the blues legend Tom “Pops” Carter for many years as his caregiver. When he wasn’t out and about in the blues scene he adored being at home tending to his yard, being a handyman around the house, and firing up his grill relaxing with his family.
If you asked any of Calvin’s family or friends about him they would first tell you of his amazingly big heart and his kindness. He was always willing to lend a hand and help when and where he could. Calvin believed strongly in honesty, integrity, and actions speaking louder than words. He had a strong work ethic and moral code and it showed in every aspect of his life. It didn’t matter who you were or what walk of life you were from he always had a big smile ready and made you feel like family.
He will be so very dearly missed by so many people.
