Fred Paul Shaulis, son of Wilbert and Evelyn Shaulis, was born December

22nd, 1930 in Somerset County PA, went home to the Lord on March 6th,

2022 at his home in Colorado Springs Colorado and is survived by his

loving wife, Betty Jean (Jano) Shaulis, 6 children, Linda (Jeff Cowan), Fred

(Diane Schweitzer), Kathleen (Antonio Gonzalez), Tom (Linda Horner),

Edward and Mary (Wade Simshauser). He was also blessed with 15

grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Fred is survived by 2 brothers,

Bob Shaulis and wife Joanna and Wilbert “Bud” Shaulis and wife Ruth.

Fred and Betty shared 67 wonderful years together as husband and wife.

Fred went into the U.S. Army in 1951 and was discharged in 1954. While in

the Army he obtained the rank of Sergeant and trained on and repaired

helicopters. After his discharge, he returned to Somerset PA and married

the girl of his dreams, Betty Jean Jano in July of 1954 and they moved to

Garretsville OH in search of a new life and to find employment and then to

Ravenna OH, where they settled and Fred found work as a bricklayer/

mason.

Fred, a skilled handy-man, built 2 homes on Lake Rockwell Rd in Ravenna

OH and bought a 73 acre farm in Newton Falls OH. While on a trip to visit

his brother Bud, who was stationed at Ft Carson CO, he noticed that his

arthritis in his hip felt much better and as a result, decided to move his

family out to Colorado Springs CO in September of 1972, with the

exception of Linda who remained in Ravenna OH and Fred, Betty and

family settled in the Rock Creek Mesa area where he lived for the next 50

years, where he and Betty Jean raised their 5 children. Three children lived

in the same neighborhood for the better part of their adult lives while 2

children returned to Ohio and the family farm in Newton Falls.

Fred was a man of many trades, there wasn’t much Fred couldn’t do or fix.

He bought 5 houses in the Rock Creek Mesa neighborhood and remodeled

each, all which at one point or another became a residence for one of his 3

children.

Fred was a coal miner, farmer, soldier, bricklayer/mason and a water meter

reader for the Rock Creek Mesa Water District. He loved working on

anything he could get his hands on that needed repairs, but working and

restoring antique vehicles was his pride and passion.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, affectionately known as “Pappy” to

his family here in Colorado Springs, Fred will be dearly missed.

No services will be held at this time and a family “Celebration of Life” will be

held at a future date.
