Born May 25, 1951, on Highway 101, Orange County, CA. Steve Carter Barben passed away peacefully at home on January 7, 2022. Survived by his Wife of 47 years is Rebecca Glasser, children Shannon and husband Josiah, Zachary, Paul and wife Hilaire. Grandchildren Myron (Kamaria), Alexious, Dominic (Megan), Junior (Alyssa), and Ethan. Great Grandchildren Elliott, Oliver, Kiyrah, CJ, Jaylen, and Tayden. Preceded in death by his parents Joy and Charles, brothers Fred and Terry and sister Joannie.
Steve served in the United States Army from 1971 to 1974, where he took great pride in being a crew chief of helicopters flying along the DMZ. Once honorably discharged, Steve settled in Colorado Springs where he started his own painting business until he retired in 1993, after which he was a stay-at-home dad and grandpa. When the kids grew older, he started his last phase as a stable manager at Mark Reyner Stables where he was able to enjoy his passion of horses, becoming a cowboy, and living his dream until 2018.
Steve loved the outdoors and mountains. He was an avid fisher, hunter, and camper; passions that he passed on to his children. Steve and His wife built a cabin on their property by hand without the use of electricity. It was his favorite place to be, and he took delight in having large family gatherings there.
He will be remembered by family and friends for his easy-going attitude. He was always open and friendly with a big grin on his face. Steve never saw “bad” in any situation or person. He was forever positive. He was fearless and goofy and everyone who met him loved him. He will be missed dearly and forever remembered. Next time you’re walking in the woods or fishing you just might feel him tagging along.
In lieu of flowers we would ask that you please make donations to Mark Reyner Therapeutic Riding Center at cstrc.org or mail to 3254 Paseo Rd. Colorado Springs, CO. 80909.
