Josiah Amir Noernberg was born on October 1, 2026. He passed away at home on November 3, 2026. Though only on this earth for a short time, his life impacted many people. Words cannot express the joy that family and friends felt when given the news of his conception, or the immense love for him that began in the womb and continues beyond.
Sweet “Josie,” with his signature hair, adorable petite chin, big, beautiful eyes, and luscious eyelashes, captured the hearts of every person he met. Born 20 inches long and weighing 7 lbs. 4 oz., with long feet and fingers to match, Josiah had a physique that made him stand out like no other. From his head to his toes, he was unique, special, one of a kind, utterly unforgettable.
Not only was he beauty, he was also brawn. Everyone complimented both the strength he held in his physical body and the strength of his soul. For instance, he quickly earned the title of “escape artist.” Josie rarely let a swaddle win him over, always fighting it off with a swing of his little arms. Just when you thought you had him all wrapped in, his little hand would pop its way out to say hello.
His strong spirit showed itself even during labor. With the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck twice, around his arm once, and holding a knot in it, he still found his way into this world. Josiah never went out without a fight.
While Josie knew what it was to battle, he also knew love unimaginable. His doting mother and father spent every moment with him, never leaving his side, even until his last breath. In the midst of hardships due to his condition, Josiah was met with nothing but warmth and deep love from his parents, grandparents, extended family, and friends.
Though he was a strong fighter, sweet Josie can now simply rest. This is the hope that his parents have for him: that his sweet body and soul would enjoy such peace and comfort and never know pain or strife again. As he rests, he is never, ever forgotten. His family remembers him with a phrase of honor: “Forever Josiah,” and a poem written by his mother:
Oh, beautiful boy,
Thank you for the joy.
Thank you for the time spent;
There was never enough of it.
How could one contain the measure of love laid out for you?
It’s too much for this world to hold.
It’s too much for one to express in words, or kisses, or hugs, or soft touches.
This entire earth can’t handle the amount of love laid out for you.
So, sweet boy, I hope the heavens are able to.
He is survived by his mom and dad, Nishiana and Joseph, who both love him deeply.
At the family’s request, there is no formal service at this time. We do ask that you simply find ways to honor and remember Josiah, whether alone or with his parents. His mother and father have a deep connection between Josiah and the movie Lilo & Stitch, and we highly encourage those who want to honor Josiah to watch the movie and keep in their hearts a famous quote from the film:
“‘Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.”
