January 27, 1955 – August 13, 2026
Jim or Jimmy as many knew him, was born January 27,1955 in Topeka Kansas. He passed away at home on August 13, 2026 in Black Forest, Colorado, after a prolonged illness.
Jim leaves behind his wife and soulmate of 16 years, Terri Ferrari, his two children Chad (LynDee) Armstrong and Lydia Armstrong, and his grandson Quade James Armstrong. He is also survived by his loyal Australian Shepards Blu and Roxi, and his amazing horses Wrangler, Spirit and Dakota.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Armstrong and Lucille Oberhelman Armstrong, and his beloved brother Jerry Armstrong.
Jim loved playing basketball. His favorite team of course was the KU Jayhawks. After graduating from Topeka High School, Jim traveled to Alaska for what was to be a month working on building apartments. He ended up staying over 20 years raising his family. They moved to Colorado Springs in the late 90’s and Jim quickly became the superintendent of construction for multi-million dollar home builders.
When the housing industry declined, he went to work in the Construction Engineering department at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs where he retired ten years later. He loved his job and most importantly the people he worked with.
Jim was a member of the Kit Carson Riding Club for over 25 years. He raised his two children riding horses and competing in horse events.
Jim’s spirit and love of people and animals will live on as his legacy. He never had an enemy in the world. Men, women and children all loved him. He was a tease, and children loved being around him. Even as adults they would run up to him and give him a big hug. Jim had a funny and contagious laugh and loved to joke with his work buddies. He was the best hugger and had the biggest heart. Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
