Dale August Hansen, 74, of Raton, New Mexico passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on April 3rd, 2025. He was born December 1st, 1950, to Ole and Elvera Hansen in Concordia, KS. They, along with his sister, JoAnn lived on a second generation farm in Courtland, KS. In his baby book, Elvera recorded that his first word was “light.”

In preschool on November 25th, 1953, Dale got to go on his first train ride from Kackley to Courtland and we believe this was the catalyst towards his love of trains. After college, he went to work for the railroad in 1972 where he held many job titles all within track engineering. Dale was very humble in his accomplishments with the railroad, but we know he touched countless lives working all over the country for over 50 years.

Dale loved sports, especially basketball and K-State Football. He became quite the athlete throughout the years and carried his talent of basketball with him to college. He was an excellent basketball player and coach, plus he loved to fish. He always looked forward to the many fishing trips that he took with lifelong friends. He instilled all these values in his son, Andrew who born during his first marriage.

Dale married his best friend and eternal partner, Sandie K. Castillo on November 4th, 1995.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Elvera Hansen. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandie K. Hansen, his son, Andrew (Keli) Hansen of Newton, Kansas, and granddaughter, Summer, his sister, JoAnn (Ray) Newman, of Beloit, Kansas, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and other family.

The funeral service is Monday, April 7th, 2025 at 2pm at Zion’s Lutheran Church in Trinidad, Colorado.
