Edna Marie Beaman (Murphy/Potter) passed away at the age of 76 on January 17th, 2023, after a long battle with COPD. Edna passed away at home in the care of her family and a hospice team.
She was born Edna Marie Murphy in Flagler, Colorado on December 13th, 1946, to parents Loren and Doris Murphy (Mullen).
While Edna lived in many places throughout her life (including a year in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands), she always ended up back in Colorado which she considered home. She spent most of her childhood and adult years in Colorado Springs. She graduated from Harrison high school and raised her family here in Colorado Springs. She had many jobs over the years, but worked mostly in data entry, including at the El Paso County courthouse for many years.
She had a zest for life and a fun and loving spirit. She loved fishing, bowling, baseball, dancing and music – especially Elvis! Her passion was her family and she never tired of spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished every second of time she had with them and always wanted to be playing games with them or taking them out to try something fun. She loved having family get-togethers and if it was ever quiet at one of them, it was because Grandma (Edna) was up to something and usually had the grandkids in on it.
She is predeceased by her husband of over 20 years Donald Beaman, parents Loren and Doris Murphy, brother Harvey Murphy, sister Leah Shonts.
She is survived by her brother Darryl Murphy, her son Clinton Potter, her daughter Krista Kennard (Potter) and son-in-law Scott Kennard; her step-son’s Jon Beaman and daughter-in-law Mary Jane Beaman and Patric Beaman and daughter-in-law Tracy Beaman; her grandchildren and step-grandchildren and their families Joshua Potter, Courtney Potter, Jade Kennard, Kieren Kennard, Michael Beaman, Tina Minty (Beaman), Stephanie Buckley (Beaman), Alyssa Anderson and Aaron Anderson as well as 4 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Due to the family’s scheduling needs a service will be postponed until later in the year. A celebration of Edna’s life open to all friends and family will be held at Alternative Cremation, 2377 North Academy Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80909 on May 5th, 2023, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers you may donate in Edna’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital which was her favorite charity.
