Margaret Cleotilde Shaw

September 28, 1933-July 7, 2022

On Thursday, July 7, 2022, in Colorado Springs, CO, Margaret Shaw, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at the age of 88.

Margaret was born on September 28, 1933 in Guadalupita, NM to Emilia (Torres) Gonzales and Jose Nestor Gonzales. Margaret attended Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM. She married Jack Wilmerding and moved with him to an Air Force base in Japan. They had three children and moved back to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Margaret later had two more children when she married W.I. “Artie” Shaw.

Margaret had a lust for life that she expressed through her longing for travel and adventure, her willingness to dance at any moment with or without music, and her passion for reading. She was an expert bowler, holding championship titles in 1967, 1968, 1971, 1977, and 1982.

Margaret had a love for the outdoors and was an avid fisherwoman, earning a reputation for being able to out fish anybody. She was enthusiastic about card games, often playing long into the night and was known for her delicious enchiladas and sopapillas.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband Artie Shaw, her son, William “Bill” John Wilmerding, her stepchildren Linda (Shaw) Scally, and Ronald Wayne Shaw, and her grandson, Ronald Wayne, Jr.

Margaret is survived by her brother, Nerio S. Gonzales, her children, Catherine Ann (Wilmerding) Bache, Mark Hamilton Wilmerding, Mary Francis “Frankie” Shaw, Tara Shaw, her grandchildren, Joel Scally, Samantha Rachel (Wilmerding) Petrova, Sarah Louise (Wilmerding) Bohannon, Jacob Shaw, Joshua Shaw, Margaret Adrienne Quijada, Maya Emilia (Quijada) Woodcock, and her great grandchildren, Devilyn, Cassian, Ethan, McKayle, Gwen, Jaxson and Remington.

A small family memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at the home of Margaret Quijada. Interment to be held at a later date in New Mexico.
