Rick James Thorp, 67, passed away on March 22 at his home in Sugar City. Rick was born in Orchard Gardens, Minn., on July 28, 1951 to Stanley and Alice Thorp. Rick grew up in Eden Prairie, Minn., where he spent his formative years before moving to Colorado in 1975.

It was in 1978 when he and his late wife Christine (aka Chris) were married and they soon after began raising a family of their own. In 1992, Rick and Chris became owners and operators of All Rental Center in Colorado Springs, a business founded two decades earlier by Rick’s father, Stanley.

Rick was much like the vintage cars he restored – classic, but with an incredible, undeniable personality. He enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family during gatherings at his home, the “compound” at Lake Meredith. At dusk, if he wasn’t in one of his shops tinkering, he would be found sitting behind the wheel of a golf cart on the beach, watching the sun set over the lake.

He is survived by two sons Charlie (Jasmine), of Meeker, and Jeff (Brett), of Peyton; sisters Patti (Thorp) Johnson, Susan Thorp and brother, Michael; five grandchildren, Ryan, Cole, Rex, Carley and Rocket; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by beloved wife, Christine, grandson Ryder, brother Tom, and parents Stanley and Alice.

Rick will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting or knowing him. A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on May 7 at his beloved Sugar City compound.
