Delmar Lee Humphrey

Delmar Lee Humphrey, a devoted husband and beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on December 21, 2021.  He was 89 years old, born on September 24, 1932, in Colorado Springs, CO to Bertha (Williams) Humphrey and Delbert Humphrey.  Delmar was the oldest of their six children. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Jean Gieck in 1953. Together they raised two children, Joni (Marty) Saip and Dwight (Terri) Humphrey.  They have six grandchildren; Lindsey (Mike) Wedor, Brandon (Rebecca) Saip, Chelsey (Kaleb) Woodard, Shelbi (Brandon) Lowery, Tanner (Stephanie) Humphrey, and Parker Humphrey, and 8 great-grandchildren; Macy, Tatum, Brooklyn, Lauren, Emmitt, Hendrick, Eli & Parker Renee, and two more he met on his way out and we will all get to meet in March and July of 2022. Delmar was a wonderful uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews as well.

Delmar worked for the Railway Express Agency and retired from The City of Colorado Springs as a bus driver.  For many years Del served as President of the union.  He served as a Deacon, Elder and was a Youth Ministry Leader for 33 years at Village Christian Church.  He then served as a trustee at Sunnyside Christian Church.

Delmar was a devoted man of God and loved by everyone.  He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease. It didn’t matter if he knew you or you were a complete stranger, if you were in earshot you were a potential target.  To Delmar, family was everything.  He is survived not only by the previously mentioned family but also by three brothers; Babe Humphrey, Larry Humphrey, and Dean Humphrey as well as one sister Judi Marchwicz.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carol Sedman.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 am on January 8, at Sunnyside Christian Church, 2025 N. Murray Blvd. Colorado Springs, CO 80915.
