Maynard L. Long was born July 6, 1944, in La Mesa, CA and went home to be with his Lord after a long battle with severe COPD, on April 29, 2021, in Colorado Springs, CO. He was the son of Wilbur and Louise (Reining) Long, who predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, Judy G. Long; children: Tammy M. Warden, Ricky D. Long, Dale L. Long, Joe D. Long, of Dinosaur, CO, Steven Horn, Fort Wayne, IN, and Lenee’ Valdez, Colorado Springs, CO. Also surviving him is his brother, Duane (Jane) Long, Pueblo, CO and sister, Diane McGee, Lufkin, TX, many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Maynard served in the US Navy, serving from January 1964 to January 1968, attaining the rank of Ship’s Serviceman Third Class (E-4), serving off the coast of Viet Nam aboard the USS McMorris. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his service to his country. Maynard worked many years with Frazee Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator, becoming one of the best until a medical issue caused an early retirement.
Maynard was a member of the Colorado Cowboys for Jesus Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, serving as an usher until the pandemic struck. He loved his church, his pastors, the congregation and especially his Lord. We can all be comforted in knowing that Maynard is in the arms of his Savior and is no longer suffering.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 8th, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Colorado Cowboys for Jesus Church, 11 N 22nd Street, Colorado Springs, CO. A short reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall after the service.
