Shawn Michael Standridge
May 2, 1979 – May 13, 2020
Age 41
He was born on May 2nd, 1979 in Toledo, Ohio. He grew up surrounded by a large extended family and friends in Michigan. He moved to Florida in 1997, where he quickly made friends and more family. His sense of adventure took him to many places where he made friends. He traveled to Colorado Springs, CO a couple of years ago and that is where he died unexpectedly on May 13th. He was planning a move back to Florida this year to be here for his children, but sadly his time on earth ran out. He will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him. We will miss his smile, his laugh, his crazy antics, his intelligence, his long conversations, his phone calls, and his letters.
Shawn spent a lot of his early years with his “best friend” Grandpa, fishing at the family cabin in Canada, playing ball, telling stories, and going to Detroit Tigers or Toledo Mud Hens baseball games. He was a lifelong DETROIT fan and a dedicated comedian who loved a good joke. He loved to build & jump ramps for anything with wheels be it a Big Wheel, skateboard or a 10 speed bike, (which inevitably ended with a broken wrist). He was called an accident looking for a place to happen because every adventure involved broken bones or stitches- usually to his head. He never outgrew his daring spirit, sense of humor or need for an adventure. Shawn was very intelligent and had an 11th grade reading level at the age of 7. When he was 10 he wanted to be Doogie Howser, M.D. In school he won Science fairs, played football, golf and was on the swim team. He was the first recipient of the Arrow of Light Award in his Scout district. He was very proud when he received his Plumbing certificate a few years ago, thinking he would follow in his father, grandfather, aunt, and uncles into the Plumbers union.
Shawn is survived by his parents Marvin Standridge and Barbara (Savieo) (Standridge) Swope, his sister Bobbie Standridge, several children, a grandchild, several aunts, uncles, cousins, 2nd cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his Paternal grandparents, Marvin & Bonnie Standridge, and maternal grandparents, Harold & Burnadene Savieo, and several friends.
