John Leland Thompson was born to Herbert and Audrey Thompson at St. Josephs hospital in Denver CO, on November 3rd 1952. He grew up in Aurora CO, and attended Aurora Central High School. He met his wife Barbara in 1969 and they were married in 1972. John was employed by the City of Aurora street department for 35 years and he retired as the superintendent of the department. Together John and Barb spent 50 years in Aurora and Castle Rock and raised 3 children. In 2019 construction began on his home at the Broken Tree Ranch in Guffey CO. They moved into the home in 2023 and continued construction. In April of 2024 John was diagnosed with ALS. He passed at Memorial Central Hospital in Colorado Springs on January 30th 2025. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara; his sister Leslie; his 3 children Douglas, Anthony, and Julia, as well as his 12 grandchildren. John was loved by family and friends and in the words of his sister “I don’t think he ever met a stranger.” 
His services will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church in Denver CO, on Thursday, February 20th at 11am.
