Martin L. Smith, affectionately known to many as “Smitty,” passed away on October 12, 2024, in Colorado Springs, CO, after a courageous battle with sarcoidosis myositis. Born on February 5, 1944, in Oak Park, IL, Smitty led a full life characterized by devotion to his family, a strong work ethic, and a zest for life that was truly infectious.

Smitty’s early years were spent in Chicago Illinois. After graduating Amundsen High School and one year at the University of Illinois, he dedicated 20 years of service to the United States Air Force. He received a Bachelor of Science in Electronics from Chapman College. His commitment to his country was matched only by his dedication to his work at Lockheed Martin, where he spent over 30 years contributing to significant advancements in his field.

Beyond his professional achievements, Smitty was a true family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Roseann, his sons, Tony and Greg, and Greg’s wife, Rachel. His three grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy, will miss their grandfather’s warm presence and the wisdom he imparted.

Throughout his life, Smitty was an embodiment of intelligence, love, and analytical thinking. These attributes not only made him a respected colleague but also a cherished friend and mentor to many. His early years saw him actively participating in sports such as bowling, softball, and football, showcasing his competitive spirit and team-oriented nature.

As the years went by, Smitty’s interests evolved, but his enthusiasm for life never waned. He found great pleasure in vacationing on the beach, with Hawaii and Puerto Vallarta being among his favorite destinations. There, he could be found basking in the sun, embracing the tranquility of the ocean.

We bid farewell to a man whose life was as rich and vibrant as the sunsets he adored. Martin L. Smith will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
