Mary J Turner
April 13, 1938 – August 19, 2024
Mary was a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend. She was a long-time Vacaville, CA resident. She left this world doing what she loved most, spending time with her loving family. She was 86.
Mary was born to Peter and Alice Robello on April 13, 1938. She graduated from Bishop O’Dowd High School in 1956. She spent her career working in telecommunications, starting in 1962 at Pacific Telephone and retiring in 1990 from Pacific Bell. She started her career as an operator and held a variety of managerial positions throughout her long career. Her favorite anecdote was the time she climbed a telephone pole, to prove to her crew that she could do it.
Mary loved to travel. She especially enjoyed multiple trips to Portugal and Spain, barge trips on the Mississippi, and many cruises, including a very special trip to the Baltic.
Mary volunteered for English Springer Rescue of America and quickly discovered she was better at adopting than fostering. She loved English Springer Spaniels and owned several over her lifetime.
Mary was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 26 years, Don Turner.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Deborah Steffen; grandson, Christopher Steffen and his wife, Sherry; granddaughter, Laura Thomas and her husband, Scott; brother, Albert Robello and his wife, Kitty; and her adored great-grandchildren, Garrett, Xander, and Cora.
Mary’s final resting place will be with her beloved Don, in Hampton National Cemetery in Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s honor to English Springer Rescue of America at SpringerRescue.Org. Checks may be mailed to 19818 Nashville St. Northridge, CA 91326.
