In Loving Memory of Willis Earle Unger
Willis Earle Unger passed away on January 14th, 2024, following a brief illness at the age of 88. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Born in 1935 in Wray, Colorado. Earle spent his entire life in the beautiful state he called home. In 1953, he proudly served in the Army during the Korean War, demonstrating his commitment to duty and service to his country.
In 1956, Earle embarked on a lifelong journey with his beloved wife, Helen Zuege. Together, they built a life in Colorado Springs, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and shared experiences. Their union lasted 64 years until Helen’s passing in 2020.
Earle was a dedicated employee, contributing his skills to the City of Colorado Springs and Colorado Interstate Gas until his well-deserved retirement in 1995. His strong work ethic and passion for his job were evident, as he continued to work until the very day he left us.
Beyond his professional life, Earle was a man of many interests and hobbies. He found solace and joy spending time at his cabin near Divide, where he could embrace the beauty of nature and relax in the serenity of the mountains.
Family meant everything to Earle. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, parents Thelma and Arnold, his brother Jack, and sisters Betty, Esther, and Laura. He is survived by his son Wes, daughter Marlene and husband Bob, sister Eleanor Herrick, grandson Larry, granddaughter Misty, and Misty’s two daughters, Angelica and Aleah. Earle also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, along with an extended family who will forever feel the impact of his love.
In remembering Willis Earle Unger, we honor a man of unwavering dedication, strength, and kindness. His legacy lives on through the memories he created and the love he shared. Earle will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A private memorial service to celebrate Earle’s life will be held.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
