Lorene (Vogt) Boese went to be with the Lord on September 30, 2023 at the age of 91. She was born on October 4, 1931, to Cornelius and Tena (Gossen) Vogt on a wheat farm near the town of Corn, Oklahoma. Lorene was also welcomed by her 5 year old sister Margie. About a year and a half later a brother Roy also joined the family. She attended grade school in a one room school house typical of farming communities at that time. She loved school, especially reading. A small metal cabinet filled with books was the library, and she read every book over and over again during those eight years. She remembered that on her very first day of school, she saw the large Dictionary and thought for sure it was a large Bible. Walking home from school with her older sister and younger brother, the two and ½ miles on dirt roads seemed like a chore that had to be done. They crossed over two creeks and wooden bridges, so there were always Hedge apples to be picked on the way so they could see who would make the largest splash when on those bridges. After school there were always chores to be done and each child knew what to do. After supper they did the usual home work and before bedtime, her father read scripture and every member of the family knelt to pray, which was in German in those early years. At the age of 10 she attended a revival meeting with the family. This was held in a huge tent on the parking lot of the Mennonite Brethren Church in Corn. On one of those evenings she accepted Jesus as her personal Savior. Later that year she became a member of the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church. When she was ten years old she had a wonderful surprise, her dad announced that their mother had given birth to twin boys. They were her life sized dolls from the day they came home from the hospital. She loved to help with those babies who were named Harley and Harold. Lorene attended Corn Bible Academy for four years. She especially enjoyed the Bible studies and all the music. God gifted her with a good soprano voice and she used it singing in trios, quartets, and solos. She was asked to sing at many various occasions which she did to praise the Lord for His gift to her. On August 14, 1949, she married the love of her life, Lewis H. Boese, who was also from Corn, OK. They became the parents of Michael, Louann and Tena. During her 54 years of marriage to Lewis, they lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Oregon and California. Lorene loved being a wife, mother and homemaker. During the children’s growing up years, she volunteered to be a brownie Girl Scout leader, PTA worker and teachers helper. In later years during retirement, she again volunteered at Robinson school to help children with reading and math. Lorene sang in various choirs of the churches they attended in Corn, OK, Premont, TX, Boulder, CO and Fresno, CA. After the children were older, Lorene worked in the office of D & R Distributing for several years. Then she became the office manager of McKinley Medical Laboratory and stayed with them until her retirement in 1990. Besides singing, she also enjoyed teaching children’s sunday school classes and Wednesday night programs. After the love of her life passed away in 2003, she remained in the family home for several years before moving to Twilight Haven Senior Living. There she lived in a retirement apartment and enjoyed all the classes, programs and special events they offered. She enjoyed a group of good friends and kept busy all the time. In 2016 she moved to Colorado Springs, CO to live close to her son and his family where she lived in a retirement apartment. Lorene was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Boese, her first son who passed away at birth in 1952, her grandson Jack Fawcett, her daughter Louann Fawcett, her sister Margie Franz, her brothers Roy Vogt and Harold Vogt and her parents Cornelius and Tena Vogt.
