Shirley Jean Humphrey (Gieck)

May 15, 1934 – January 30, 2023

Shirley Jean Gieck, a devoted wife and beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully into the hands of our Lord and Savior on January 30, 2023.

She was 88 years old, born May 15, 1934, in Colorado Springs, CO to Lela (Hamilton) Gieck and Dewey Gieck.  Jean was 1 of 5 children. She married her high school sweetheart, Delmar Lee Humphrey in 1953. Together they raised two children, Joni (Marty) Saip and Dwight (Terri) Humphrey. They have six grandchildren; Lindsey (Mike) Wedor, Brandon (Rebecca) Saip, Chelsey (Kaleb) Woodard, Shelbi (Brandon) Lowery, Tanner (Stephanie) Humphrey, and Parker Humphrey, and 10 great-grandchildren; Macy, Tatum, Brooklyn, Lauren, Emmitt, Hendrick, Easton, Eli, Parker Renee, and Hayes. Jean was also a wonderful aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews. 

Jean worked for Alexander Film Company, Civil Service at Fort Carson Headquarters, Pixie Village Preschool, and Peterson Air Force Base Engineering Branch. For 33 years Jean served as a Youth Ministry Leader at Village Christian Church as well as teaching 2nd grade Sunday School. She then served as a volunteer office assistant at Sunnyside Christian Church.

Jean proudly attended every game and event of her kids, grand-children, and even great-grandchildren. Jean’s  deck flowers, sewing, her hot tub, Lake Powell trips, Delta Thanksgivings, and chocolate turtles were among a few things that Jean loved the most. 

Jean was very close with her parents and siblings, she was also a care-giver to her Mom in her Mother’s later years.  Family was a very important part of her life.  She is survived not only by the previously mentioned family but also by 1 brother, David Gieck. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers; DJ Gieck and Bob Gieck, and 1 sister Estell Slocum. 

Jean was a devoted woman of the Lord and entered heaven with the peace of  knowing that her family knew the Lord as their Savior.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday February 25th at Sunnyside Christian Church, 2025 N. Murray Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80915.
