JEFFREY PAUL JONES

Jeffrey (Jeff) Jones tragically passed away October 13, 2022, following a severe and devastating stroke days earlier. Jeff’s family was by his side at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. He was 42.

Jeff is survived by his spouse, Bethany (Nearing), residing at their home in Colorado Springs; parents Glen and Un Ha Jones of Fairfax, VA; sisters Amy (Jones) Rangel of Kennewick, WA and Stacy (Jones) King of Fairfax, VA, and brother Peter Jones of Richland, WA and their respective spouses and families, including four nieces (Pilar, Norah, Georgie, and Emily). Additional family members include several uncles, aunts and cousins in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Texas and Georgia, and in the Republic of Korea; as well as parents-in-law Tim Nearing of Pasco, WA, and Rainey Nearing of Longview, WA.

Jeff was born March 30, 1980 in Richland, WA. Most of his early years were spent in the eastern US as the family moved to project work assignments in Harrisburg and Pittsburgh, PA, and then several years in Oak Ridge, TN. He returned to Richland with the family in 1994, graduating from Richland High School in 1998 and then attending Columbia Basin College.

Jeff joined Bechtel Corporation on the Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) project in Richland in 2007, beginning a career in data management related fields. Through his work there he also would meet his future spouse, Bethany. The two were married in Richland in 2013.

Since 2018, Jeff and Bethany both were employed with Bechtel on the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (PCAPP) project in Pueblo, CO.

Jeff was deeply loved and respected by every member of his immediate and extended family, and by the many close friends he made over the years. He was bright, cheerful, comic, caring, and always looking to help others with their needs. A dedicated professional in his work life, he was also an avid golfer, Star Wars aficionado, and admitted shopaholic. He doted on all of his nieces and reveled in being their “Crazy Uncle Jeff”. He thoroughly enjoyed travelling and touring around with his beloved Bethany, and together they were generous hosts to visiting family, always making them feel like they were not just welcome, but home. He will forever be cherished in our memories.

A celebration of life open house is planned to be held in Pueblo on Friday, October 21.
