Colorado Springs – Steven J. Brissette, 68, died on Sept. 12, 2022, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 19, 1954, in Van Buren, Maine, to Delmar and Shirley (Bossie) Brissette of Stockholm, Maine.
He attended Stockholm Elementary School and graduated from Caribou High School in 1972, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served 4 years as a Seabee. He was a Petty Officer second class. He attended NMVTI and graduated as an electrician. He also attended Regis University. Steve was a computer hardware engineer at digital equipment company (DEC). His ability to read operating system crash dumps and troubleshoot both hardware and software issues gained him great notoriety in and out of the DEC. He traveled extensively in the U.S. And abroad working on difficult issues.
Steve was an avid dog lover and owner of Alaskan malamutes, wolf hybrids and Bernese Mountain dogs. He enjoyed their companionship and going on many nature hikes through Garden of the Gods. Steve was a true outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He liked wrestling with his brothers. He also enjoyed solitude and his daily gorgeous view of Pikes Peak from his home. Photography was a great talent of Steve’s focusing on nature and wildlife with many works of art in his home.
Steve was predeceased by his father, Delmar; a sister, Connie and brother-in-law, Ron Sites; a brother, Kevin; and special nephew, Tracy. Surviving him are his mother, Shirley of Brewer, Me; brothers, Bruce (Diane) of Greenville, MI, Brian (Jane) of Presque Isle, ME, Russell of Jackson, GA, Curtis of Stetson, ME, and Scott (Patricia) of Yakima, WA; sisters, Sharon (Giff) Swanson of Orrington, ME, and Brenda (Ken) Nadeau of Brewer, ME; sister-in-law, Lisa Brissette of Caribou, ME; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
His family would like to extend deep gratitude to longtime friend, Carol Tilden, who helped Steve during his illness and to her grandson, Josiah Janicek, who was like an adopted grandson to Steve. Josiah brought so much joy to Steve through his life. They’d hunt, fish, go on camping trips, hike, and have adventures with motorcycles and motorbikes. They truly had a special relationship.
A celebration of life Mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Stockholm, ME, on Oct. 7, 2022, at 11 a.m.
