William Glen Smith, 74, of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully into the arms of His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, while surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, August 12, 2022. The only child of William Lawrence and Jean (Cassman) Smith, he loved the outdoors, was an avid sportsman, worked as a pilot and guide during his summers on the family island and on Lake of the Woods in Canada.

Glen moved to the US to attend North Dakota State University, obtained his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and Masters in Aeronautical Engineering. In 1969, he married Barbara Anne Doeling. After college, he moved to Rockford, IL and started his career at Sunstrand Corporation. While employed, he held roles of increasing responsibility in engineering and program management. He also obtained several patents during his career. He retired from Sundstrand (Collins Aerospace) in 2013 after more than 38 years of service. 

Glen was a true engineer, craftsman, gentleman farmer, and leader in his church. He designed and built his Illinois home and barns where he enjoyed his trees, horses, dogs, cats, and riding around on his tractor, “Ol’ Blue”. One joy of his life was becoming a US citizen in 1987.

Glen met Lynn Markowski through mutual friends on a blind date, and they were married one year later on October 3, 2008. He was a dedicated father and stepfather, loving husband, loyal friend, and role model. Most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends’ while pursuing hiking,  hunting, skiing, golfing, boating, driving his orange Jeep Rubicon and traveling. A kind, authentic and caring man, his handshake was firm, with a smile for all he met.

During the years living in Colorado, he made many devoted friends, attended several Bible studies, and supported and volunteered for many non-profit organizations. His most recent service was as a Board Member for the Gleneagle Sertoma Club.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, William, and Jean and first wife, Barbara. He is survived by his loving wife, Reverend Lynn Smith, his daughter Kristin (Dan Malaney), Stephen Markowski, Jenna (Christopher) Smith, and three cherished cats-Shadow, Zoe, and Puma.

His memorial service/reception will be held on September 22, 2022, at 1pm, New Life Church, Colorado Springs in the World Prayer Center.
