George Henry Mineah was born in San Diego CA May 28, 1939, the son of Lawrence and Lucy Carson Mineah. After graduating from Escondido Highschool, he attended UC Riverside, where he lettered in 5 sports, and met the love of his life, Barbara Blackman whom he married in 1962. After receiving his bachelors, George, Barbara and their infant daughter Janice moved to Tacoma, Washington on Christmas day to start his job at Systems Development Corporation. Professionally, George worked in satellite communications and helped create the communication system for the International Space Station. In 1968 the family, now including younger daughter Carolyn, moved to Colorado Springs, where George participated in numerous bands, played soccer and provided for his family. During the 1980’s and 90’s George was an avid runner and triathlete. George and Barb moved briefly to Houston to enjoy the bluebells and mosquitoes. They moved back to CS in 1995 to the same house they lived in before. George played in the DixieQ’s, Mandocentrics, and various Shriner bands. He also sang in the Colorado Springs Chorale for many years. Many people have memorable George stories that bring smiles. George valued family, education, music, saving, road trips and knots.
