Alice Mae (Sterner) Demi
October 12, 1933 – January 2, 2022
Alice passed away while in Hospice care in Colorado Springs where she had lived since 2016. Passing away while in Hospice brought full circle some of her professional efforts. She helped found the first home health Hospice in the United States in Marin County, California while working on her Ph.D. And later helped launch the a Hospice in Denver, Colorado.
She leaves behind four children, Gary Demi, David Demi, Todd Demi and Janeen Demi-Smith; seven grandchildren, Skyler and Xander Demi, Adele Demi, Lydia Conway, Daniel Demi-Smith; Katie and Samantha Sexton; and three great-grandchildren, Quinlan and Jasper Conway and Cora Hotaling.
She was a loving wife to Ralph Mosiello, Howard Demi and Jim Middleton.
Alice was a career woman and world traveler. She visited all continents multiple times, except for the frozen one.
Alice began her nursing and medical career at Monmouth Medical Center in New Jersey as a licensed practical nurse, sequentially located with her military husband, Howard Demi, to San Antonio, San Francisco, San Rafael, Calif., Denver and Augusta, Ga. Alice earned bachelors and masters degrees at San Antonio College, where she also taught nursing. She later earned a PhD from the University of California, San Francisco. Alice was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing.
Alice’s career turned to nursing education early on, and later she helped start a doctoral nursing program in Georgia, which she later helped revise into an online program. She retired from her profession as Dean of the School of Nursing at Georgia State University.
Alice was a fierce political liberal who loved photography, travel, reading, education and learning, and her little dog, Princess. She is already keenly missed by all who loved her.
