Dr. David Wayne Virden was born on July, 10th 1954 to James and Viola Virden in Wareham, Massachusetts. Dave has lived an adventurous life. He had a love for photography, composing music, playing music, funny car racing, and an incredible love for computer programming. In Dave’s early years he joined the United States Air Force and was deployed to Vietnam, but was discharged due to “Ryan’s Law”, he saw combat for approximately 2 months and then returned home and discharged. After his discharge he was a long-haul truck driver, and while doing this would also race funny cars in his spare time. During these years Dave had a horrific crash, he had no pulse while on the race track and was revived on the race track, and again in the life flight helicopter on his way to the hospital. Dave spent 3 months in a coma, and upon waking had to learn life all over again. He had to learn math, to read and write, and actually speak properly again.
Dave has a never quit attitude, and willingness to face his challenges head on, Dave had to pursue a new career field as racing and truck driving were no longer an option as a result of the accident. Upon coming out of his coma he had lost the ability to do many simple things, he had to learn how to do simple tasks all over again, like learn how to speak properly again, and to write with a different hand, and to do simple math.
Around this time frame Dave’s best and childhood friend was in a horrific auto-mobile accident with a drunk driver, upon his friend’s death bed, his friend pleaded with Dave to raise his young daughter Danielle (Dani). Dave held true to his promise. Dave endured many legal battles but raised Dani as his very own and kept the promise he made. During all this time Dave was learning to do all the simple things that the coma took from him, raised a little girl like his very own daughter, and started attending school for himself. He had to find a new skillset and job after the accident. Dave later went on to receive multiple certificates for related to computers and computer programing, he had an associate degree, 1 Bachler of Science degree in Business management, 1 Bachler of Science degree in computer programing, 2 Master degrees both associate with computer engineering and programing, and a doctorate degree in computer program engineering.
Amidst all this he still found time for his passion of photography, composing and playing music, and anyone who knew him well they knew he loved his coffee, to the tune of almost 18 cups a day in his later years before passing. Dave was a man that made his own path, followed no one, did things his way, and was very rough around the edges, but once you knew him, you grew to love him unconditionally, like a family member or big brother.
In 2011 Dave was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and over the years had multiple treatments, to the point where his tumor stopped growing all together, but as time progressed the tumor became active again and extremely aggressive, and ultimately took him from us on December 22nd, 2021. On that day, heaven was brightened with the addition of a true angel, and we are all left here with a void and missing our brother. The tumor, and the progression was a very very painful daily occurrence, and painful for the people who spent a lot of time with him to watch, but as he rests with Jesus now, he is pain free and sleeping a full night’s sleep every night now.
Rest in Peace “Muffs”, you are loved, cherished, and truly missed.
