Joanne Yvonne Noble, a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado, peacefully left us on November 28 at 6:30AM, to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born June 16, 1936 to Robert Powers Wade and Cora Schollenberger Wade, both previous residents of Iowa.
Joanne leaves behind her loving husband, Richard Kenline Noble; two sons, Richard Lee (Debbie) of Yorktown, VA and Robert James (Sharon) of Colorado Springs and their respective families, consisting of four married grandchildren: Richard Sean Noble (Corinne), Karen Dawn Levins (Michael), Rachel Marie McGaw (Dusty) and Thomas Robert Noble (Kailee). She is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Peter, Evan, and Atreyu.
Joanne was raised on the south side of Los Angeles, California until graduating from Washington High School (WHS) and marrying Richard on March 24, 1956. Joanne had a wonderful soprano voice and loved to sing. As a senior in high school, she played the leading role of Bess in the musical Porgy and Bess. She was also a member of the WHS Drum and Bugle Corps. Joanne attended Harbor Community College and worked for the General Telephone Company; later she worked as a bookkeeper for a small business in Orange County.
Joanne took driving trips with her mother and father every year, visiting family in Keota, Iowa and Northern California. As a result, she loved the outdoors, never hesitating when asked if she would like to go camping, fishing or on a day trip. The mountains and beaches were her favorite! She continued these activities when raising her family.
As an adult, Joanne continued her love of vocal music by singing in the Bethany Church choir and Singing Christmas Tree in Alhambra, California. She continued her love of band with her duties as a chaperone and board member in the Long Beach Junior Concert Band, in which her sons Richard and Robert played trombone and trumpet. She was “Mom” to dozens of teenagers in the band and was remembered and loved by them for decades.
People knew Joanne as a quiet, fun lady with a loving heart. She was a good judge of character and endeared herself to many. She faithfully sent birthday, anniversary and Christmas cards to friends and family every year. One of Joanne’s hobbies was collecting; she collected over 300 owl figurines of all sizes. Joanne dressed impeccably, with matching shoes and purses for every outfit. She was an immaculate housekeeper, superb cook, and excellent hostess, warmly opening her home to family and friends. Joanne’s expertise in counted cross-stitch resulted in her creating dozens of beautiful, cross-stitched gifts commemorating births, marriages, and special occasions, all cherished by their recipients.
Joanne and Richard moved to Colorado Springs in January 2020. Both were baptized at an early age and joined the Church of the Nazarene in 2004 while attending Las Flores Church in Carlsbad, California. As an adult, Joanne’s faith became increasingly precious to her. Her ashes will be scattered after a memorial service at Springs First Church of the Nazarene, Colorado Springs on December 20, 2021.
