Major General Ralph Spraker of Colorado Springs passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2020. He was born on January 14, 1933 to Clarence and Vera Spraker of Aberdeen, Idaho.
He graduated from Utah State University and joined the Air Force where he served for 35 years. He began his career as a navigator on B-47’s and then was transferred to ICBM Strategic Missiles. From there he finished his career in Colorado Springs in the AF Space Command. Over the years he had many positions as commander of Missiles Squadrons, Missile Wings, and the first commander of the AF Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base. He also flew in EC-121s as a navigator and training officer in Thailand during the Vietnam conflict.
Among his decorations and awards are the Distinguished Service Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, and the Vietnam Service Medal, Legion of Merit with one leaf oak cluster.
He was promoted to Major General on April 28, 1981. He was married to Sandra Sledd of Salina, Kansas. Interment will be held at the National cemetery in Colorado Springs and a memorial service held later. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Pikes Peak Humane Society of Colorado Springs..
