Dennis Eugene Collins passed from this world on October 23, 2020 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born July 7, 1944, son of Loren Lloyd Collins and Hazel Ida Marie Mills Collins, in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from West Port High School in 1962.
Denny married his first wife, Nora, in 1968 and they had two children, son Eric and daughter Myorka. They divorced in 1982. The divorce was very hard on them all.
He met his wife Beverly when they were both working at Domino’s Pizza Corporate Office in Ann Arbor and were married in 1987. They were married for 33 years. Many people did not know he was a romantic. Often, he would pick a wildflower and bring to her or write a loving message to her.
Many times over the years Denny created costumes and props for his children and grandchildren. A few years ago, he drove from Colorado Springs to Kansas City because he heard that his grandson Alec wanted to make a “real” Dalek (Doctor Who) costume for a Cub Scout costume contest. It took 6 weeks to build and turned out great! The Dalek won that costume contest and has since become a featured guest at numerous comic book and science fiction conventions in the Kansas City area.
Denny liked to make things work. He could repair and build about anything he set his mind to. He liked to write for his own entertainment and was a member of the Marshalltown, Iowa, Writing Group for many years. As the 7th son born on the 7th day of the 7th month, he had many stories to tell, which were recorded in his family history book, “Stories of the Collins-Corbett Clan,” which can be read on familysearch.org. He was very pleased to be the winner of a writer’s award and had his story, “One Man’s Dream,” published in The Literary Journal Special Romance Edition, 1998. He was also an excellent cook, and he and Bev were partners in the kitchen. While living in Iowa, Denny and Bev entered Iowa BBQ contests and won many awards.
Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers Bob, Bill and John Corbett. He is survived by his wife Beverly Collins; children Eric (Holly) Collins and Myorka Warden; grandchildren Cameron Collins, Alec Collins, Nathan McCahon, and Lexi Cummings; great grandchildren Aydan and Graysan; brothers Ron, Frank, and Richard Collins; and nephew Michael (Sonya) Collins.
There will be no funeral services. He wished to go quietly into the night.
He is being cared for by Alternative Cremation in Colorado Springs. Please remember him in your thoughts and prayers.
