Richard “Dick” Gilbert, 78, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, on October 3, 2020. After several months of declining health, Dick died peacefully at home with family by his side.

He was born to Usava Valva (U.V.) Gilbert and Thelma Grace (Corwin) on August 23, 1942 in Colorado Springs. Dick graduated from William J. Palmer High School and then proudly served in the United States Navy from January 19th, 1960 to January 18th, 1963. He used the culinary skills gained during his service throughout the rest of his life.

Dick married Sharon, in 1980, who survives him. Dick is also survived by his sisters Lorraine (George), Willa Mae, and Bonnie (Frank), brother Mike, sons Ryan (Claire) and Dennis (Denise), stepchildren Jim (Kim) and Jodi Price, as well as six beloved grandchildren, Tucker, Taylor, Micayla, Tanner, Cayden, and Sam. Dick was predeceased by son David, parents U.V. and Thelma, and siblings Valda Lee, James, Bernice and Robert.

A man of few words, Dick was an uncharacteristically lively sports fan, who especially loved cheering for the Broncos and the Rockies. He spent many of his days (though not as many as he probably would’ve liked) fishing various bodies of water in Colorado and Minnesota.

Family will gather for a private ceremony to celebrate Dick’s life. In lieu of sending flowers, donations can be made to Colorado Hospice and Palliative Care (https://coloradophc.com/contact/donate   /), which the family wishes to thank for the thoughtful end-of-life care they helped provide, or the Humane Society of the Pike’s Peak Region (https://www.hsppr.org/donate  /  ).
