Ralph “Ed” Marten May 30,1941 – June 24, 2020
Ed Marten, 79, of Colo Spgs passed away at his home after a short illness of Pancreatic cancer.
Ed is survived by his wife Linda of 52 years & many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Bus and Ferne Marten of Guthrie Center, IA
Ed grew up in Guthrie Center, Iowa & graduated from there in 1959.
Ed attended the College of Automationin Des Moines in 1959, where his computer profession began with his job @ Look Magazine in Des Moines.
Ed was a lifetime member of USArchery and the Iowa State Archery Assoc (ISAA)
He began tournament competition in 1955 & shot for 58 years until he retired in 2012 after the loss of his aiming eye
He served on the USArchery Board of Directors from 1971-1980 and was the Presdent of USArchery from 1976-1979
One of Ed’s most honored moments was being chosen to give the induction speech when 1972Olympic Gold Medalist Doreen Wilber of Jefferson, IA was inducted into the Archery Hall of Fame
Ed along with wife Linda were inducted into the ISAA Hall of Fame in 1988. They were the first husband/wife duo to receive this honor.
He served as Management Information System Director for the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) from 1978-1981. Ed then went to work for Laser Data Services in Denver. During this time he worked on contracts for Shell Oil in Guatemala, Honduras, Panama and the Dominic Republic.
His hobbies included besides archery, ceramics, reading, watching TV, playing the guitar andsinging.
