LEOPOLDO GARCIA
Leopoldo Garcia beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away peacefully on March 3, 2020, at the age of 67 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Leo was born in Hatch, New Mexico on May 25, 1952, the fifth of ten children born to the late Leopoldo C. Garcia and Beatrice Avilucea and preceded in death by his son, Eric Dean Garcia.
Leo grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico and graduated from West Mesa High School in 1970. He served in the United States Army and honorably separated in 1972 with the designation of rifle sharpshooter. Leo and his family lived in Leadville, and he worked at the Climax Molybdenum Company in Climax, Colorado from 1974 to 1985. In 1987, he moved his family to Colorado Springs, Colorado where he retired from Academy School District 20 in 2004.
Family was very important in his life, and his grandchildren stole his heart. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching WWII movies, and was an avid Broncos fan.
Leo leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Louise Garcia; loving children, Leopoldo (Jaime) Garcia of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Jennifer (Scott) Sheil-Brown of Denver, Colorado; precious grandchildren, Jeremy Garcia, Nathaniel Garcia, James Sheil-Brown, Thomas Sheil-Brown, and Isabelle (Princess) Sheil-Brown; and siblings, Antonia (Mundo) Benavidez, Yolanda (Miguel) Garcia-Rascon, Marylou Rael, Thomas Garcia, and Lisa (Richard) Huffman; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Leopoldo (Leo) is scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
