EVAN L. HAND
October 8, 1944- September 17, 2019
Evan Hand, 74, passed away September 17, 2019 at North Memorial Hospital, Colorado Springs, CO. He was born October 8, 1944 to James and Emily Hand in Akron, Ohio and grew up in Hudson, Ohio. He graduated from Western Reserve Academy and received his B.S. in English from Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut. He did graduate studies at the American Institute for Foreign Trade, now known as Thunderbird School of Global Management, Phoenix, Arizona.
He married Elizabeth Roberts in 1966. Over the next few years, their children, Jim, Kate and Amy were born. As Evan achieved success in the corporate world with Owens Corning Fiberglas, they moved many times across the U.S. Evan worked as a salesman and then an executive in the building materials business until 1994 when he and Beth purchased Clearview Distributors, a local window and door business in Monument, CO. They retired in 2007 when they sold Clearview. Although Evan achieved many accolades and awards for his professional achievements in his corporate career, he knew his greatest “achievement” was participating in his children’s lives as they grew and flourished. He and Beth focused on the best education for Jim, Kate, and Amy including academics, sports and support for friends and community. Evan was in the bleachers or on the sidelines encouraging and cheering them in soccer, basketball, track, cycling, and golf. He loved his family and was very proud of them.
Evan was an active member of The Church at Woodmoor. He was a member of many golf clubs as they moved across the U.S. He enjoyed golf, reading, sports, and traveling to visit family in Portland, Minneapolis and Ft. Lauderdale.
Evan was preceded in death by his father, James Hand, mother, Emily Hand , and brother James Hand Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hand; children, James Hand, Amy Hand , Katherine McNeil(Tim); grandson Jimmy McNeil; sister, Susan Talbot (Peter); brother-in-law George Roberts(Barbara); six nephews and nieces and several great nieces and nephews.
