Danny Meril Chartier was born November 9, 1949, in Havre, Montana, to Milly and Meril Chartier. He would be their 2nd child, as they had a daughter, and he a sister, named Carolyn, who was born in 1948, in Billings, Montana. The family was in Montana, as Meril, or Mel, as he was called had a country/western band, and they played various towns in Montana, up until 1950, when the family returned to Colorado. There were two brothers, from another marriage, as Milly had been married/divorced prior to this union. Their names were Dick and Allan, and both were born in the 30’s. In 1956, another brother, Fred, joined our family. Danny and Carolyn had childhood years that took place in the Westwood neighborhood in Denver, and ended up in the Parker area, in 1960. Danny and Carolyn were closely bonded, and both attended Westwood Elementary. They rode bicycles together, went roller skating together, and swimming together. At the roller rink, they got into doing the limbo on skates, and would win free passes to come back the next week. They swam at a pool called Progress Plunge. Before Dad added on to the house, there was an outhouse, and Danny and Carolyn used to jump off the roof of it, into a bush. Amazingly didn’t impale themselves. Danny graduated from Douglas County High School in 1967. He would go into the Marines in 1968, with his best friend, Ed Morris. He worked for Montgomery Ward for a time, after his discharge, and later became a driver for Hadley Auto Transport, and put in over 30 years with them. He was married two times, with each woman breaking his heart. He had a love of cars and motorcycles as a teenager, and would end up owning many. He loved street rods, car shows, and rod runs. He loved music, especially the blues, and a favorite artist was Eric Clapton. We lost our Mother in 1990, and had to fend for ourselves at holidays. Danny surprised us all when he made deviled eggs and brought them for Thanksgiving. Danny rode Harleys, and went to Sturgis a number of times. He enjoyed the biker life, and participated in many of their activities. He belonged to the Ventures Motorcycle group, while he was working. He retired in Pueblo West, from Aurora. His body had taken a beating from the job of truck driver, and his health went downhill after retiring. Despite his efforts to have a nice place in Havisu, and own two beautiful street rods, he wouldn’t get to enjoy all. His body continued to fail him, and he passed away on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2018, just two days after his 69th birthday. Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Milly and Meril Chartier, and brothers Allan and Dick Scott. Allan was killed in a car accident in 1966, at the age of 27, and Danny had idolized him, and adored him. It took a toll on Danny to lose Allan.
Danny wishes were that no funeral be done. His desire was to be cremated, and buried at Ft. Logan Cemetery. Military honors will be done for him, and friends may like to come to the cemetery.
His sister, Carolyn, would like to add, that she is going to miss Danny for the rest of her life. We were buds in so many ways, and conquered differences to stay close. Some of Danny’s women friends referred to him as a big teddy bear. Carolyn has a teddy bear, named Danny, and bought him for that reason. He was a brother to Fred and Carolyn, that instilled in us the love of classic cars, street rods, motorcycles, and car shows. We’ll always remember him when seeing any of these things.
