Elberto “Life” Lopez

February 04, 1944 – October 12, 2018

Elberto “Life” Lopez was born February 4, 1944 in Pueblo, Colorado. He went home to be with the Lord on October 12, 2018, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after a short battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Eva, his daughter Dr. Leona Lopez, his brothers, Ernest Lopez and Ralph Mendoza (Roseann), his favorite nephews, Joseph “J.R.” Mendoza (Leah) and Eric Mendoza (Jasmine). Additionally, he is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother Gregoria Lopez and his father, Joseph “Ben” Mendoza.

Elberto, who was known as “Life,” grew up in the Salt Creek area of Pueblo, Colorado. He had a charismatic nature and could always make you laugh. He always found the good in people and was quick to forgive anybody who wronged him. He had a passion for helping others and never met someone he didn’t like.

In his youth, he dreamed of working in law enforcement. He realized that dream and spent his law enforcement career working for the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Corrections in Ordway, Colorado.

Upon retirement, Elberto enjoyed spending time at home. His favorite things to do included drinking a cold beer, fishing, going to Cripple Creek, and watching the Denver Broncos.

Above all else, Elberto loved his family. He will be greatly missed by his wife and daughter. At Elberto’s request, no services will be held.

Your brother Ralph, Roseann, and family

Special message from Ernest Lopez:

My brother was a loving and giving person. He had a lot of respect for people and would do anything for anyone. That was his way of sharing himself and showing he cared for others. I loved him very much and I miss him very much.
