1932 ~ 2018

Charles Irvin Bergquist, 86, of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away on July 3, 2018, at Penrose St. Francis Pikes Peak Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, July 13 at First Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to Memorial Fund of 1st Lutheran Church, 1515 N. Celebration of Charley’s life will be held at the Bergquist Family Reunion in Detroit Lakes, MN in early August.

Charles was born to Wilhelm and Nellie (Bakke) Bergquist on April 6, 1932 in Detroit Lakes, MN. He graduated from Audubon High School in 1950. Charles spent four years in the Air Force as a plane mechanic. He worked with the Big 5 Coop, built a gas plant and a bulk fertilizer plant. He was V.P. of the Bank of Windom, MN.  He earned his pilot’s license and University of Wisconsin banking diploma.  Charles owned his own business, Chuck’s Warehouse Grocery, in Wahpeton, ND.He married Mardella in 1987 and moved to the cabin on Little Pelican Lake where he could fish to his heart’s content.  He dabbled in vending, selling advertising products and,when he moved to Colorado Springs, real estate.  His “retirement” consisted of his working with the Marion House Soup Kitchen, driving bus for the church, playing bridge, going to the “Y” every morning and a lot of golf.

He loved his family more than anything.  He was preceded in death by his parents Wilhelm and Nellie; brothers Wilferd Bergquist, Cecil Bergquist; sisters Arlys Lindblad, Doris Jones, Inez Haagenson and Marge Laffen; stepson, Rodney and step-grandson, Zach.

Charles is survived by his wife, Mardella; son, Mark; daughter Nancy; step-children, Michael, Bruce, Milt and Brenda; grandchildren Caleb, Bailey and Max; step-grandchildren Katie and Jamison; brother Ralph Bergquist, and sister Carol (Larry) Fast.

Charles was full of life, love and humor.  He was dearly beloved and will be missed.
