Marilyn C. Wagoner

November 12, 1933 – October 30, 2017
 

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our

beloved mother, Marilyn ( Mari ) C. Wagoner. Mom’s sprit left us on

October 30, 2017. She was 83 years young. She was loved by

all who have ever met her. She was a gracious, kind and caring lady.

She is survived by sons, Michael and Barry Wagoner and

daughters, Christel Wagoner and Cheri Rhodes, daughter in law

Marilyn S. Wagoner, son in law Dale Rhodes and her pride and joy, grand

daughter, Amanda Rhodes.

Mari was born in Endicott, Nebraska and is preceded in death by her

parents, Glenn and Bertha Compton and her brother, Dale Compton.

She was raised on a farm in Mahaska, Kansas.  During her journey through

life, she was married for 25 years and traveled and lived in several countries as

an Air force spouse.  She made her final home in Colorado Springs and loved gardening

and spending time with family and friends.  Mari ( mom ) touched a lot of

lives and she will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.

You rest now mom and know that you were loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation

for Parkinson’s research in Mari’s name.

A celebration of Mari’s life will be held on Monday, November 6th, 12:00 p.m. at

Alternative Cremation, 2377 N. Academy Blvd in Colorado Springs with a lunch immediately following.

“Life Tribute”

“Mari” as she was known to her many friends, was born Marilyn Carol Compton on November 12, 1933 near Endicott, Nebraska to Glenn and Bertha Compton.  She joined her older brother, Dale (Squib) Compton.

She attended Mount Vernon grade school and in 1941 the Compton family moved to a farm near Mahaska, Kansas.  There she completed her grade school years at Hopewell, district #91 in a one room school house.

She graduated as Valedictorian of her class at Mahaska Rural High School in 1951.

For a few months she worked as a telephone operator for Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company in Fairbury, Nebraska.

She married in April of 1952 and was an Air Force wife for 25 years.

She traveled extensively during her married life and after, living first in Biloxi, Mississippi, then overseas in Châteauroux France, to Denver, Colorado, Clovis, New Mexico, Fairbury Nebraska, back overseas Tripoli, Libya in North Africa then Hubbell, Nebraska, Aurora, Colorado, Orlando, Florida and making her final home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

In addition to being a telephone operator, Mari also worked in real estate, was a waitress at Red Lobster, worked in accounts payable for AT&T, worked for Cheyenne Mountain Conference Resort and finally retired from Walter Drake in 2003.

She was a long time resident at La Cresta Senior Living park and then moved to Brookdale Broadmoor Assisted Living in 2014 where she lived until her passing.

She was a wonderful mother of 4 children, Michael Glenn Wagoner (Marilyn S. Wagoner), Barry James Wagoner, Christel Elayne Wagoner, Cheri Lynn Rhodes (Dale Rhodes) and treasured grandmother of Amanda Marie Rhodes.
